Privacy Policy

The privacy policy here is extremely simple and straight forward:  I collect some personal identifying information and some anonymous information.

Exactly what personal information is collected and where is it stored?

When you leave a comment on this site the following information is trapped from the comments page:

• The name, if any, you enter
• The Email address, if any, you enter
• The URL, if any, you enter
• The text of the comment you make

All items above are stored in a simple html file on the site for later display (obviously).  These items are also emailed to myself so I know someone had something to say about the site.  Usually I just read and delete those Emails as I have a copy on the server already.  All of the above, except the comment itself, are also stored in a cookie on your computer that will expire after one year.  If you would like to see exactly how this is done, please see my PHP Comments page (not yet available).

Exactly what anonymous information is collected and where is it stored?

I use Site Meter in addtion to the raw server logs to collect site statistics.  When you visit Behind the Beaded Curtain the following information is trapped:

• Your IP Address
• The time and date of your visit
• What site, if any, referred you to www.beadedcurtain.f2s.com
• What agent/browser you are using
• What was your entry page into the site
• What page linked you out of the site
• Information concerning your time zone, OS, OS Language, your Domain (like aol.com), and your top level organization (.org or .com)
• Information about your browser is also gathered: Broswer type and version, JavaScript version, DHTML/PNG/CSS support

All the above are stored either on the f2s.com server or on a Site Meter server.  To my knowledge, neither F2S nor Site Meter makes use of the specific data collected from your machine although it is highly likely that both take aggregate information to monitor their server loads.  Although I do try to keep tabs on the privacy policies of those sites to which I link, I am not responsible for their policies and have little or no influence over them.

Exactly why do you collect this information?

The information gathered when comments are posted is simply for recognizing who made the comment.  If you want to remain anonymous, you are not required to enter any information when posting a comment.  With the other information, I can better tailor my site to fit the viewing habits of those that visit Behind the Beaded Curtain.  That's it.
